
Steamers Come Alive for Big Win at Fayetteville

The Edenton Steamers (4-4) had a big night at the Swap defeating the Fayetteville SwampDogs (4-3) by a final score of 12-4.
The Steamers got the scoring started in the first inning when Billy Wilson tripled down the right field line to bring home James Battley to make the score 1-0.
In the third, Wilson would strike again. This time it was a double that brought home Kopach and Battley to make it 3-0.
The SwapDogs would cut it to a one run ballgame after getting an unearned run off of Nick Wegmann and then Marquise Lanier homered in the fifth to make it 3-2.
The bats for both sides would stay quiet until the seventh inning. In the seventh, the Steamers got an RBI double from Agresti and Maseli to make it 5-2. Chris Williams picked up an RBI later in the inning on an infield single to make it 6-2.
In the top half of the eighth inning the hit parade continued. Jason Agresti connected on a three-run homerun to make it 9-2. In the ninth, the Steamers added some insurance. Billy Wilson brought home James Battley with an RBI single. Then Agresti knocked in two more runs with a double down the left field line to make it 12-2.
The SwampDogs got two unearned runs in the ninth to make it a 12-4 final.
Billy Wilson and Jason Agresti highlighted the Steamers success at the plate. Both guys were a hit shy of the cycle and combined for 10 RBI. Wilson went 4 for 5 at the plate with 4 RBI and 3 runs scored. Agresti totaled 6 RBI while going 4 for 6 at the plate with 2 runs scored.
Nick Wegmann had plenty of success on the mound for the Clams. The SwampDogs top six hitters in the lineup went 1 for 17 against him at the plate. Wegmann pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned run on two hits and recorded five strikeouts.
The Steamers will play on Friday night back at Historic Hicks Field against the Peninsula Pilots. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
