Edenton Steamers News Release

EDENTON, N.C - The Edenton Steamers of the Coastal Plain League announce today that 2013 head coach Bryan Hill will once again skipper the teal and black next summer.

Hill, a native of Murfreesboro, N.C., is entering his third season as Chowan University's top assistant baseball coach in 2014. After graduating from Chowan in May of 2009, Hill worked locally as a personal trainer before becoming a volunteer for the Hawks as their strength and conditioning coach, as well as helping with day-to-day field coaching for the 2010 season under then head coach Aaron Carroll. In 2011 Hill began pursuing coaching full-time when he was hired on as an assistant coach at Jackson State Community College in Jackson, Tenn., where he served in the same role as strength and conditioning coach for the athletic department and as the pitching coach for the baseball team. Hill will also bring ample Coastal Plain League knowledge and experience with him to Edenton in 2014. Prior to his head coaching stint this past summer, he suited up as a player in 2007 for the New Bern River Rats (now the Morehead City Marlins); in 2012 Hill served as the pitching coach for the Wilson Tobs before being promoted to head coach at midseason.

"I am grateful to be returning to Edenton for the 2014 season," said Coach Hill.

"Last season was great and I am looking forward to continuing the team's success with another opportunity to win the Petitt Cup. The town of Edenton showed great support and I am excited to put another Steamers team on the field in front of them."

Hill guided the Steamers to a league-best 40-11 record in the 2013 Coastal Plain League regular season, as well as winning both first- and second-half East Division titles, en route to earning the number one overall seed heading into the Petitt Cup Playoffs. During the season he had a league-high eight players selected as All-Stars and four players earned the Rawlings Player of the Week Award. Hill also earned head-coaching duties for the East Division in the CPL All-Star game and led them to a 3-2, 10-inning victory in the mid-summer classic. Under Hill's leadership, the Clams also broke or tied 14 franchise records and were ranked sixth in the country in Perfect Game CrossChecker's final summer poll for 2013. For his accomplishments at season's end he was honored as the CPL Coach of the Year.

"We are excited to bring back Bryan Hill for his second season with the Steamers," said Edenton General Manager Chip Pruden. "Last summer he proved to be not only a great coach but also a pleasure to work with. In 2014 we look to continue the success that he started a year ago and we believe that he will be able to lead the Steamers to another successful regular season. Now with his additional experience in Edenton, we're confident he can drive our players to a Petitt Cup Championship."

As a player for the Chowan University Hawks (2005-2009), Hill was a left-handed pitcher and outfielder and he still holds the school record for innings pitched with 267.1 for his career. In 2006 he was named to the All-NCCAA South Region Team as a pitcher.

The Edenton Steamers are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league.
