Edenton Steamers News Release

The Steamers picked up their second win of the season with a 5-3 victory on Friday night over Morehead City (0-4). This is their second win against the Marlins this week.

Edenton (2-1) got off to a fast start once again. Connor Kopach scored the first run of the game on a groundout by James Battley to make it 1-0 in the first inning.

After the Marlins tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third, the Steamers would explode for a four spot in the fourth inning. James Battley got it started with a solo shot out to left field to make the score 2-1.

The Teal and Black then used three straight singles to load the bases. Nate Gardner drove in the second run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to make the score 3-1. After a past ball to score Anthony Maselli to make it 4-1, Tyler Burns would get an RBI single to make the score 5-1.

In the bottom half of the inning, the Marlins would load the bases. However, Mark Castellucci would ground into a double play, but bring home a run in the process to make it 5-2.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Marlins would get another run on an RBI single. This prompted a pitching change for the Teal and Black. Cody Maw would come into replace the starting pitcher Kelvin Pilot and finish the inning to keep the score at 5-3.

Maw (1-0) was the winning pitcher in tonight's contest for the Clams.

Carmen Giampetruzzi came in to close things down in the ninth inning for the Steamers. Giampetruzzi picked up his second save of the season to seal the 5-3 victory.

The Clams will be back in action on Saturday against the Wilson Tobs before their day off on Sunday. First pitch is at 7:05pm.
