St. Louis Steamers News Release

ST. LOUIS - The Major Indoor Soccer League announced on Monday that the St. Louis Steamers' forward, Mike Apple has been awarded the MISL Offensive Player of the Week Award following his four goal weekend in the Steamers two wins over the Milwaukee Wave, clinching the 2005-06 Regular Season Championship. It is the first time this season that Apple has received the award and the fifth member of the Steamers to be such honored.

Apple scored two goals in the 8-7 overtime win over Milwaukee Saturday afternoon at Savvis Center. His second of the game turned out being one of significance with it being a game-tying goal with only 13.3 seconds remaining in regulation after the Steamers had fallen behind with a little more than a minute remaining. The Steamers would go on to win the game 8-7 in overtime. The goal was set up op on a pass off of the head of Joe Reiniger centering it to Apple. He then took that pass and deflected it off of his head into the back of the net for the momentum turning goal.

The following afternoon at the U.S. Cellular Arena in Milwaukee, Apple, again, played a major role in the Steamers victory by posting two goals, the second being the game-winner in the fourth quarter. With 8:46 remaining in the game, Apple again found the net after being set up by Reiniger. His goal made the score 7-6, this after the Steamers trailed in the third quarter, 6-5. His game-winning goal also clinched the number one seed in the MISL Championship Series following the season beginning in April.

Apple's four goals this weekend give him 14 on the season to go along with six assist giving him 20 points. He joins teammates Elvir Kafedzic (Dec. 5th), Reiniger (Dec. 19th), Shaun David (Dec. 27th) and Carlos "Chile" Farias (Jan. 30th) as the members of the St. Louis Steamers to win the Offensive Player of the Week.
