
Steamers acquire defender Jeff Davis from Kansas City

St. Louis, MO, February 11, 2005 -St. Louis Steamers Team President Michael Hetelson, announced today that the team has acquired defender Jeff Davis from Kansas City in exchange for forward Ibrahim Kante and midfielder Craig Scheer
Davis, 33, appeared in 13 games for Kansas City this season, posting seven points (two goals, five assists). He became the Comets all-time leader in blocked shots this season with 418.
The 5'-9'', 165-pound, defender notched 37 points (21 goals, 16 assists) last season, tying him for fifth on the Comets, while being named an MISL All-Star. He also recorded 83 blocks, which ranked him fourth in the MISL. Davis was named the Comets Defensive Player of the Year and was also named Kansas City's Most Valuable Player for the 2003-04 season.
Davis' best year was the 1999-00 season, when he tallied 70 points (35 goals, 35 assists) along with 90 blocks. He has appeared in 289 career games, amassing 235 points (134 goals, 101 assists) along with 466 career blocks. He has spent the last eight seasons with Kansas City, winning a championship in 1996-97 with the Kansas City Attack. The St. Louis, MO native is a St. Louis University graduate, while spending three seasons with the Ambush from 1993-1996, winning a championship with the Ambush in 1994-95.
Kante, 23, has appeared in 19 games for the Steamers this season, collecting 14 points (11 goals, three assists) along with 69 shots. The 6'-3'', 215-pound forward is tied for first in the MISL with three restart goals. The Bamako, Mali native posted a six-game point streak from Dec. 3 to Jan. 2, recording seven points (six goals, one assist) over the span.
Scheer, 28, has played in 12 games this season with St. Louis, notching two goals. The 6'-0'', 170 pound midfielder started the 2003-04 season with St. Louis, playing in 17 games, recording eight goals along with 10 penalty minutes. He was traded to the Kansas City Comets in February in exchange for Franck M'Bemba and goalkeeper Chris Smith. The Cape Girardeau, MO native played two seasons in Baltimore and was a member of the 2002-03 Blast Championship team.
