Roanoke Steam News Release
ROANOKE, VA - The Roanoke Steam moved their record to 2-2 in impressive fashion Saturday night, dominating the Louisville Fire 61-41.
QB Chris Sanders, making his first start for the Steam, was just as impressive as he was in last week's debut, completing 21 of 32 passes for 257 yards and 4 touchdowns. Sanders, who won af2 Offensive Player of the Week last week, also rushed for two touchdowns.
WR Anthony Hines, fully recovered from a turf toe injury suffered earlier in the season, also was stellar for the Steam, pulling in 8 catches for 120 yards and two touchdowns.
The Steam defense was a major difference-maker, constantly pressuring Louisville QB Matt Pike. Roanoke's front 4 recorded five sacks, in addition to numerous hurries and knockdowns.
Pike finished with 19-for-49 passing and five touchdowns, with three interceptions. WR/DB Carl Lyles played well for the Fire, catching 7 passes for 126 yards and two touchdowns.
The win moved the Steam's record to .500 on the campaign, and notched their first win over a National Conference foe for the 2002 season. The loss dropped the Louisville Fire to 0-4.
Roanoke will be in action next week at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, with gametime starting at 7:30 EST.
