Rochester Brigade News Release
Albany, N.Y. (AP)- The Rochester Brigade (2-2) overcame adversity on the field, setting a league record with 168 penalty yards, to defeat the first place Albany Conquest (3-1) 32-24 on Saturday night at the Pepsi Arena. Led by game MVP Martino Theus' record setting night of 14 receptions for 181 yards and two touchdowns, the Brigade brings the "NYS Lottery af2 Cup" back home to even the season series at one game apiece.
Quarterback Matt D'Orazio significantly contributed to the team's success, completing 22 of 39 passes to set a Brigade record with 313 yards passing. D'Orazio also tallied three touchdowns on the night, including a season high 45-yard strike to WR/DB Vonkeith Spencer.
A solid third quarter effort by the Brigade became the pivotal point in the game. The Brigade scored on their only two possessions in the quarter, while shutting out the Conquest offense to take a 20-10 lead into the final quarter of play.
Defensively, Rochester held Albany to 179 yards on offense and caused three turnovers; including a WR/DB Rodney Bush three-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown, which sealed the victory for the Brigade and gave the team a 32-17 lead with 6:00 minutes to play. Bush also caught two balls for 48 yards offensively to be awarded IRONMAN honors.
WR/DB Vonkeith Spencer was awarded the ADT Defensive Player of the game for the second time this season, registering four tackles (three solo), five pass breakups and one interception on the night. Offensively, Spencer contributed two receptions for 51 yards including a game breaking 45 yards touchdown reception late in the third quarter.
For Albany, OS Corey Hill caught six passes for 70 yards, registered one touchdown and returned three kick-offs for 49 yards. Defensive Specialist Brandon Tinson registered 12.5 tackles (eleven solo), two interceptions and four passes defended to lead the Conquest defensively.
Rochester (2-2) moves into a tie for second place in the Northeast Division with the Mohegan Wolves (2-2). Next week the Brigade will host the New Haven Ninjas (1-3), who were defeated by Rochester 61-34 earlier this season.
