Roanoke Steam News Release

Roanoke - The Roanoke Steam used a prime defensive effort to force four Brigade turnovers and seven sacks, and backup QB Sean Peterson came off the bench to connect for 215 passing yards, as the Steam defeated Rochester 33-20 at the Roanoke Civic Center.

The Steam, missing three key defensive personnel due to suspensions, only allowed the high-powered Rochester offense to score two touchdowns, while constantly pressuring starting QB Matt D'Orazio. D'Orazio, who played with Roanoke last season, was pulled in the fourth quarter after an ineffective 15 for 26 performance that netted two touchdowns and one interception.

Roanoke's Sean Peterson, taking his first snaps in nearly a month, entered the contest early in the first quarter in place of Mike Volarvich. Peterson was a steadying influence in the pocket, completing 19 of 29 for 215 yards and one touchdown.

But it was the defense for the Steam that made the difference. WR/DB James Everage scooped up a fumble in the second quarter and rambled in from 20 yards out for Roanoke's first touchdown of the game. Everage would later haul in a touchdown pass from Peterson early in the fourth quarter.

The victory moved the Steam to 7-7 on the campaign, and 2-1 against Northeast Division opponents. The Brigade dropped to 6-8, though they are still alive for the second playoff berth out of that division.

The Offensive MVP for the Roanoke Steam was QB Sean Peterson. DS Richard Holland, who last played with the Richmond Speed, was named ADT Defensive Player of the Game. WR/DB James Everage picked up Ironman honors for the contest.

The Steam will see action next Saturday on the road versus Atlantic Division rival Norfolk in Scope Arena.
