
Stealth Slip By Wings Undetected In 12-10 Win

SAN JOSE, CA - The Philadelphia Wings lost their second straight game as they fell to the San Jose Stealth by a score of 12-10 in their first-ever visit to the HP Pavilion. The Wings (2-2) will try and rebound as they head back to Philadelphia face the Buffalo Bandits next Saturday, January 31 at the Wachovia Center at 8 p.m.
"We continue to be weak in scoring the second quarter as we have been in every game we've played this season," said Wings' Head Coach Adam Mueller. "Our defense cost us some costly goals as well, which allowed San Jose to come out on top."
The first quarter only saw three total goals, with the Wings Jeff Ratcliffe scoring first and the Stealth's Josh Sanderson scoring the second goal of the contest. Shawn Nadelen scored shorthanded for the Wings at 12:5 8to give the Wings a 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Stealth scored four straight goals in the second quarter including two power play goals scored during a 5:00 high sticking penalty to the Wings Tom Marechek. The Wings finally got on the board at 12:22 when captain Jake Bergey scored his first goal of the night. With just :02 left in the second quarter the Stealth scored one more goal to take a 6-3 lead going into halftime.
The Wings fought back to tie the game with goals by Mark Frye, Ratcliffe, and Bergey in the first 8:09 of play in the third quarter. Frye put the Wings in the lead again when he scored his second goal of the night at 10:53. Bergey added his third of the night just :25 later to put the Wings up by two. After Bergey's goal, the Stealth pulled starting goaltender Rob Bladsell and replaced him with backup Brandon Miller. The Steath's Gary Rosyski added one more goal at 13:35. At the end of the third quarter the Wings led the Stealth by a score of 8-7.
Ratcliffe struck first for the Wings in the fourth quarter with his third goal of the night. But the Stealth scored two straight to tie the game at nine goals apiece. The Stealth got the go-ahead goal when Dan Teat scored his third of the night at 6:25 followed by Sanderson's third of the night. The Wings' Marechek scored his second goal of the night to pull the Wings within one, but Teat scored his fourth of the night with :09 left in the game to secure the Stealth victory.
Jeff Ratcliffe led the Wings offense with his four point performance (3G, 1A) followed by Jake Bergey with three goals, Tom Marechek with three points (2G, 1A), Mark Frye with two goals, and Shawn Nadelen with one goal.
Leading the Stealth in scoring was Josh Sanderson with six points (3G, 3A). He was followed by Dan Teat with four goals, Gary Rosyski with three points (2G, 1A), Mike Regan with two points (1G, 1A), and Jim Moss and Matt Ogelsby each with one goal.
