Arizona Sting News Release
DENVER, Colo. - In what will be two weeks removed from their last game, the Arizona Sting (2-1) return to action this Sunday (January 25) as they travel to Colorado (3-1) to take on the first place Mammoth.
In the last meeting between the two teams on January 9th, the Mammoth prevailed 12-11 on a game-winning goal by Colorado forward Gavin Prout. What was easily one of the best games so far in the NLL's 18th season, the second go-round should not be any different.
The Sting, head into a hostile Pepsi Center filled with over 17,000 screaming fans, ready for revenge and looking to take over for Colorado atop the Western Division. "We need to get out early and take their crowd out of the game," said Sting forward Kasey Beirnes (4G,1A vs. COL 1/9).
Knowing that they need to contain Prout (6G,1A vs. AZ 1/9), forward Gary Gait (0G,1A vs. AZ 1/9) and the rest of Colorado's star-studded line-up, Arizona is ready for the challenge. Beirnes, Arizona's leading goal scorer (11) added, "After a tough loss at home to Colorado, we have confidence that we can beat them and if we minimize our mistakes, we should come out on top."
The last time the Sting took to the field, they were victorious in a 19-18 triple-overtime win over division rival Anaheim on January 10th. Sting captain Peter Lough netted the game-winner 45 seconds into the third overtime.
Arizona is hoping to use their two-week hiatus to their advantage. Having had more time to practice together, the relatively young Arizona squad is beginning to gel and form into a veteran team. Sunday should prove no different for the Sting as they play the underdog role and continue prove their critics wrong.
