Wichita Stealth News Release

Wichita, Kansas - Two teams will be looking for their first win of the season this Saturday as the Arkansas Twisters come to Wichita to take on the Stealth. Unfortunately someone is going to stay winless. Wichita Stealth head coach Land Jacobsen feels that it is essential for the Stealth to win.

"We are not only at a risk of losing our second game of the season, but we are facing an 0-2 start at home. That's all the games that we lost at home last year," said Jacobsen.

A major problem for the Stealth in the season opener was the kicking game. A problem that Jacobsen hopes is now solved.

"Gus hit his first field goal from 43 yards away and I thought we had a winner, but the following kick-off went out of bounds and from then on he was ineffective," said Jacobsen.

Jacobsen hopes that new kicker Steven Green will fill the void and be a consistent player for the Stealth. Green comes to the Stealth from Nassau Community College in New York. Another new face for the Stealth is Todd Bassich, who comes from Aurora University. Bassich will fill in the hole left by OL/DL Charlie Knapp, who left the Stealth for an opportunity in the CFL.

"Todd is very strong, very quick, and very athletic. He doesn't look the part of a lineman but he plays the part very well," said Jacobsen.

Both the Arkansas Twisters and the Wichita Stealth lost their home opener and mirror each other in several statistical categories. One category that Wichita has to be better in is the penalty department.

"We have to be more disciplined. We have worked all week on discipline and I think people are going to see the real Wichita Stealth this Saturday," said Jacobsen.

Wichita and Arkansas play Saturday April 13th, 2002 at the Kansas Coliseum. Season tickets are still available by calling the Wichita Stealth office at (316) 755-3307.
