Stealth bitten by Dawgz

Wichita, Kan. - The last time the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz played the Wichita Stealth at the Kansas Coliseum they left on the losing end of a 70-35 manhandling by the Stealth. Tonight, the Stealth started off very quickly and looked to dominate the Dawgz once again, but the offense sputtered in the second and third quarters as they Dawgz racked up 34 points in those two quarters to defeat the Stealth 62-42 in front of 3,344 fans at the Kansas Coliseum. The Stealth fall to 7-7 on the season and have now dropped four straight games.

The Stealth came out of the gates and quickly got seven points on the board. Stealth quarterback Jonathan Beasley found Damon Thompson for a 45-yard touchdown on the very first play of the game to put the Stealth up 7-0 at the 14:28 mark of the first quarter. The Yard Dawgz would counter with a 30-yard pass from Joe Phears to Kris Peters tying the game at 7-7 and would take the lead 14-7 on the next drive on a Johnnie Balous three-yard run. The Stealth would end the first quarter scoring on a 51-yard field goal by Dylan Pohlman, setting a new Stealth record for longest made field goal.

The Stealth would get a defensive stop to start the second quarter and forced the Yard Dawgz to attempt a 58-yard field goal which was returned 55-yards by Thompson for a Stealth touchdown giving the Stealth a 17-14 lead. This is the last lead of the game for the Stealth as the Yard Dawgz would reel off 27 unanswered points and would never look back.

Quarterback Joe Phears who was starting in place of the injured Craig Strickland led the Yard Dawgz. Phears ended the night 14-of-24 for 280 yards and four touchdowns. The leading receiver for the Yard Dawgz was Kris Peters, who had four catches for 84 yards and one touchdown.

The Stealth were led by Damon Thompson who finished the night with six catches for 113 yards and two touchdowns. Heath Ridenour replaced quarterback Jonathan Beasley in the fourth quarter and led the Stealth three touchdowns, two of which came on the ground from Ridenour. Ridenour would finish the night 9-of-10 for 114 yards and one touchdown along with the two rushing touchdowns.

Yard Dawgz quarterback Joe Phears was named the Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game, Yard Dawgz defensive specialist Daron Franklin was named the ADT Defensive Player of the Game, and Yard Dawgz wide receiver/defensive back Al Hunt was named the U.S. Army Ironman of the Game.
