Staten Island Yankees News Release

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Staten Island Yankees defeated the Lowell Spinners 3-2 at Richmond County Bank Ballpark to get a split of the four game, three-day series on Staten Island.

The Yankees (21-21) pitching led the way for the second day in a row as Blakely Brown threw 4.2 innings and struck out 11 batters to get the team off on the right foot.

The bullpen core of Bryan Blanton, Kaleb Ort and Abismael Villaman would take it from there and all pitched well after some infield mistakes gave the Spinners a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning.

However, Staten Island would score in each of the next three innings to take the lead.

It started with an RBI double by Juan De Leon in the third inning that cut the deficit to one. Then in the seventh inning an error on Kervin Suarez at second base allowed Ezequiel Duran to score the tying run in the seventh inning.

Finally, the big blow came in the eighth inning as De Leon hit his fourth home run of the season to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead.

Lowell would threaten in the ninth, but Derek Craft would close it out for his first save of the season and wrap up the win.

Staten Island has a day off tomorrow and then plays three games at West Virginia before returning home for a three-game series against Mahoning Valley on Aug. 2-4 at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.
