A SPECIAL BASEBALL-RELATED ANNOUNCEMENT WILL TAKE PLACE AT 6:45 P.M. TONIGHT
-SPIKES LOOK TO TAKE SET WITH JAMMERS: The State College Spikes head into the final game of their three-game set agains the Pinckney Division-leading Jamestown Jammers, and will try to earn the series win against the Jammers. It is also the third game of a six-game homestand for the Spikes, who face Mahoning Valley from Saturday to Monday.
-LAST GAME: The State College Spikes scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, capped off by two plays at the plate and Adalberto Santos's RBI single, to down the Jammers, 7-6, last night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Santos finished the game 2-for-3 with a run scored and two runs batted in. Walker Gourley also knocked in a pair of runs on his two doubles, while Matt Skirving went 2-for-3 with two doubles as well.
-SPIKES RAISE CAIN TO HILL AGAIN: Left-hander Colton Cain gets the ball for the Spikes tonight. The Waxahachie, TX native has not allowed a two-out base hit this season with State College. Aside from his last start against Jamestown, Cain has posted an ERA of 2.25 on the year. The southpaw went four shutout innings against Lowell in his last start.
-VERES GETS THE NOD FOR JAMMERS: Jamestown will send right-hander Adam Veres to the mound tonight. Veres has faced the Spikes twice this season, allowing five runs but just one earned run over 11 innings of work. The Palm Beach Gardens, FL native notched his last victory agains the Spikes on August 2. Veres has a 2.36 road ERA on the season as well.
-SPIKES MAKE MARK FOR PIRATES SYSTEM: Matt Curry, Adalberto Santos and Jhonathan Ramos each made the NYPL All-Star Game on Tuesday, bringing the Pirates' organizational total 23 All-Stars this summer, seventh-most among major league farm systems. Also, the Pirates system currently holds the seventh best winning percentage (.532) among all organizations (fourth-best among all National League teams).
