Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release

Niles, OH - The Mahoning Valley Scrappers lost game three of a three-game series to the Batavia Muckdogs 6-4 tonight at Eastwood Field. With the loss, the Scrappers are 25-35 on the season, while the Muckdogs improve to 33-25. The Muckdogs scored one run in the top of the second inning and five runs in the top of the third inning to knock Alex Kaminsky out of the game and win the rubber match. Kaminsky picked up his fourth loss of the season as he couldn't get out of the third lasting just 2.2 innings. Houston Summers pitched a scoreless 2.1 innings to earn the win for the Muckdogs. Keith Butler recorded the save pitching a scoreless ninth inning. Chase Burnette went 1-5 with a RBI to extend his hitting streak to 11 games tying him with Jordan Casas for the longest streak this season. With a hit in his next game, Burnette will move into sole possession of the longest hitting streak for a Scrapper in 2010. The Scrappers got things started offensively tonight in the bottom of the first inning on a Burnette single that scored Nick Bartolone to make it 1-0. The Muckdogs answered quickly in the top of the second inning as Jon Rodriguez hit a solo home run off of Kaminsky to tie the game. The Muckdogs erupted an inning later scoring five runs off Kaminsky as he exited with just two out in the frame. The Scrappers grabbed three runs back in the bottom of the fourth inning off of Batavia starter Nick McCully. Aaron Fields tripled home two runs to cut the deficit to 6-3. Moncrief followed with a RBI single to score Fields and make it 6-4. The Scrappers trailed by just two, but the Batavia bullpen did its job as four Muckdog relievers held the Scrappers scoreless from the fifth inning on. The Scrappers will look to get back on track as they head on the road tomorrow to open a three-game series against the State College Spikes. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. For more information, please contact Dave Lubich at (330) 505-0000 or at [email protected].
