Lincoln Stars News Release
The Stars Weekly is a new weekly recap and preview of Stars news, games, and more. The Stars Weekly will be released every Monday during the 2017-18 season.
THIS WEEK...
Thursday, December 28 vs. Tri-City Storm - 7:05 p.m.
Friday, December 29 @ Waterloo Black Hawks - 7:05 p.m.
Saturday, December 30 @ Sioux City Musketeers - 7:05 p.m.
The Lincoln Stars hit the ground running following the holiday break with three games in three days for the first time this season. This will be one of four three-in-three sets the Stars play following the league-wide holiday with one coming in February and two in March. The Stars have played two three-game, four-day sets already this season, going 2-4-0-0 in those contests. The Stars begin the upcoming set at home followed by two road games, which follows the same pattern as the three-in-four scenarios.
PROMOTIONS: The annual Wiener Dog Race returns to the Ice Box on Thursday! The Stars will race small dogs on the ice during the first intermission and compete for the prize of Wiener Dog Champion. Fans interested in running their dog can email liz@lincolnstars.com to register. All dogs must be under 20 pounds, and the Stars ask owners to use their judgement if a dog does not interact well with other dogs.
The Stars and Tri-City Storm have met four times this season, and although the Storm have won all four games the Stars have played one-goal games when hosting the Storm at the Ice Box. The Stars have won three of seven games over the last two seasons at home against the Storm but own a 36-22-0-3 record since 2002. Overall, the Stars are 73-41-3-5 against the Storm in that same span.
This is the first of four meetings between the Stars and Waterloo Black Hawks this season with the next instance coming on January 19. The Black Hawks have won each of the last five meetings head-to-head and each of the last four season series, however the Stars have outplayed the Black Hawks at home, posting a 17-12-1-0 record since 2002-03. Overall, the Stars are 27-29-3-1 against Waterloo.
The Stars won their first of four meetings against the Sioux City Musketeers on November 4 on the road and finish the away portion of their schedule this weekend. The Stars have won three of their last five games and have a chance to earn at least a split or win during 13 of their last 16 seasons against the Musketeers. The Stars are 53-38-1-5 in 97 total meetings since 2002-03.
Western Conference Outlook:
The Western Conference was quiet during the holiday break, so action picks up with teams beginning on Thursday night with each team playing at least two games. Five conference teams play on each day from Thursday through Sunday beginning with the Tri-City Storm against the Lincoln Stars, the Omaha Lancers hosting the Waterloo Black Hawks and the Sioux Falls Stampede hosting the Sioux City Musketeers. The Fargo Force enter play on Friday against Sioux Falls as well as the Des Moines Buccaneers, who play a road inter-conference game. The Lancers and Buccaneers are the only teams not playing two games, and both the Force and Stars are the lone teams playing three consecutive games.

STAR BITS...
After a late scoring change, Stars forward Josiah Slavin was awarded a hat-trick in the team's 7-5 loss to the Des Moines Buccaneers on December 16. The hat-trick is the first by a Stars player this season. The three-point performance was also Slavin's first multi-point game of the season and second in his career, joining his three-point performance (1g, 2a) on Mar. 25, 2016 against Sioux Falls.
