DES MOINES, IA - Iowa Stars President John Pettit, in conjunction with the Columbia Inferno, today announced that the Stars Vice President of Business Operations Kevin Kavanagh has been named the Chief Operating Officer and General Manager of the ECHL's Columbia (SC) Inferno.

"Much like our players, we are delighted when a member of our Front Office makes advances in their career and this is a position Kevin, since our time together in Hartford, has worked many years in the hockey business to achieve. We wish him nothing but the best in his new endeavor."

"I am excited about the new opportunity the Inferno have given to me and my family," stated Kavanagh. "I'm also extremely grateful to John, Bob and Kirby Schlegel and Howard Baldwin for involving me in the start-up of what looks to be a very promising franchise in Iowa. From the Hockey Operations to the Front Office staff, the Stars have been a first-class organization from day one."

The Duxbury, Massachusetts native will be the second GM of the Inferno, taking over for Rick Woodard who is moving over to Ribeau Entertainment to be Project Manager of the new sports and entertainment arena being built in Lexington County.
