Chicago Wolves News Release
ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Texas Stars converted two of their first three power-play chances and held firm for a 3-0 victory over the Chicago Wolves on Thursday night at Allstate Arena.
Texas goaltender Jack Campbell posted 27 saves to earn his first shutout of the season while the Wolves (29-25-6-1) endured their fourth shutout in the last eight games.
"We're playing okay, but we're not playing desperate," said Wolves head coach John Anderson. "We saw flashes of it in the third period, but we're just not desperate enough to win hockey games."
Texas (30-18-13-1) opened the scoring with Scott Glennie's power-play goal at 8:29 of the first. Center Justin Dowling steamed into the offensive zone and fired from the left circle. Goaltender Matt Climie parried the blast with his left pad, but the rebound went straight to Glennie for an unchallenged flip into the net.
The Stars added another power-play goal 4:30 into the second to take a 2-0 lead. Travis Morin set up at the half-wall and fed the puck to Derek Hulak just outside the crease. Climie blocked Hulak's attempt to stuff home the puck, but the rebound went to Derek Meech on the weak side for another rebound goal.
Texas tacked on an empty-net goal with 1:39 to go when Hulak rifled home a shot from the neutral zone.
Campbell (6-11-5) picked up the eighth shutout of his four-year American Hockey League career. Climie (10-12-3) stopped 22 of 24 shots in the loss.
The Wolves hit the road for games at 7 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday at West Division-leading Oklahoma City. The team returns to Allstate Arena on Saturday, March 28, to face the Milwaukee Admirals in an Amtrak Rivalry game.
