Lincoln Stars News Release

Lincoln, NE - The Stars took the ice against the Des Moines Buccaneers in their final game before the Christmas break Saturday. The first period bore witness to an evenly played defensive battle. The Stars and Bucs avoided major mistakes en route to a scoreless first period. Among the highlights were two athletic saves made by Tyler Johnson and a great poke check on the back check made by Declan Carlile to break up an odd-man rush for Des Moines.

Out of the gates in the second, both teams pushed hard to the net but were held at bay again by strong goaltending on both ends of the ice. Des Moines finally broke the scoreless tie when Tyler Paquette found TJ Walsh on a cross-ice feed for the 1-0 lead. After 40, Des Moines led 1-0.

Midway through the third, Luke Manning scored on an odd-man rush set up by Sam Rendlund to make it 2-0 Bucs. Durny and the Des Moines defense kept the Stars at bay for the remainder of play. With the net empty for the extra attacker, the Stars pushed late, but couldn't solve Durny, eventually allowing Mac Welsher to get free and put home an empty net score to seal the 3-0 win. Tyler Johnson was the silver lining for the Stars, as he made 31 saves on 33 shots.

The Stars will look to regroup over the holiday break and return to action with a road game against Tri-City on December 28th.
