Sioux Falls, SD - The Sioux Falls Skyforce were defeated 133-127 in the closing minutes by the Salt Lake City Stars on Sunday afternoon from the Sanford Pentagon.
Miami HEAT two-way player Alondes Williams led Sioux Falls (17-9) with 25 points on 8-19 FGA, five rebounds, 14 assists and four steals. It marked his second-straight contest of 14+ assists. Miami two-way player Jamal Cain (22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists) contributed his first career triple-double, while adding five steals, as well.
Salt Lake City (13-13) took the opening period 34-27, as they shot 52 percent from the field (13-25 FGA). Jazz two-way player Micah Potter and Isaiah Thomas combined for 19 points on 7-12 FGA in the frame.
The Skyforce fought back in the second, as Josh Christopher ignited the team with 11 points on 4-6 FGA off the bench. Malik Williams and Cain combined for 16 points, as they were able to help take a 60-56 lead at halftime.
Both teams went back-and-forth in the third quarter. Caleb Daniels netted 14 of his 23 points in the fame, which helped the Force take an 89-93 lead to the final 12 minutes.
Sioux Falls led 114-112 to the 6:46 mark of the fourth quarter. Thomas netted 11 points in the final 4:35 minutes of play, as it helped the Stars outscore the Skyforce 21-13 down the stretch to earn the victory.
Christopher led Sioux Falls off the bench with 23 points, while he and Isaih Moore (12 points) combined for a plus-29 plus-minus. Malik Williams (17 points and 15 rebounds) secured his 10th double-double of the regular season and sixth game of 16-plus rebounds in his last nine outings.
Thomas led Salt Lake City with 30 points, while Potter added 27 points and 12 rebounds. Jazz two-way player Jason Preston notched a triple-double, with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists.
The Skyforce continues a four-game homestand on Tuesday and Thursday against the Mexico City Capitanes (12-13). Tip-off for both games is slated for 6:30 PM CST. Salt Lake City hosts the Wisconsin Herd on Tuesday, as well.
