Huntsville Stars News Release
Jackson, TN- It took a torrential downpour to stop the offenses on Thursday at Pringles Park. With Huntsville trailing the Diamond Jaxx after two complete innings, 6-3, rainfall postponed play in game one of a doubleheader. Game one will be resumed and game two played in its entirety as part of West Tenn's visit to Huntsville, May 1-4. The teams will play doubleheaders on May 1st at 6:05 p.m. and May 2nd at 2:05 p.m.
Chris Barnwell â coming off a three-run homer in Tuesday's 7-6 win â delivered a two-out, two-run single in the top of the first for a 2-0 Stars lead. The Diamond Jaxx responded with a three-run first on the strength of Micah Hoffpauir's two-run homer and Dennis Sarfate's errant pick-off throw that scored Mike Dzurilla.
Huntsville tied it in the top of the second, when Tony Gwynn, Jr. was hit by a pitch with two outs. Ryan Knox drew a walk and Prince Fielder â Tuesday's hero with a go-ahead two-run homer â singled to right-center. Gwynn, Jr. scored easily and skipper Frank Kremblas sent Knox home all the way from first. Richard Lewis' relay throw nailed Knox in a close play the plate.
The Jaxx reclaimed the lead in the home second. Ronny Cedeno led off with a double and Dwaine Bacon walked, then Richard Lewis doubled home Cedeno and sent Bacon to third. Jemel Spearman's double off the leftfield wall scored Bacon and Lewis to put West Tenn up, 6-3.
Huntsville's Dennis Sarfate surrendered six runs, five earned, on six hits, one walk and one hit batter in two innings. Jaxx starter Renyel Pinto permitted three runs on four hits, three walks and one hit batter over two frames.
The Stars resume play Friday night at Joe Davis Stadium in Huntsville against the Tennessee Smokies. Stars righty Mike Jones (0-1, 6.60) faces Smokies right-hander Brad Thompson (1-0, 1.00). Game time is 7:05 p.m. with a Friday Fireworks spectacular presented by the Orthopaedic Center and Comcast following the game.
