San Antonio Stars News Release

SAN ANTONIO (March 12, 2015) - The San Antonio Stars have acquired a first (sixth overall) and third-round (30th overall) pick in the 2015 WNBA Draft from the Indiana Fever, in exchange for guard Shenise Johnson and a 2015 second-round pick (21st overall), head coach and general manager Dan Hughes announced today.

With the completion of the trade, the Stars now own two first-round picks in the 2015 WNBA Draft. They will select sixth, ninth, 30th and 33rd overall on draft night, which will take place on April 16 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.

"We are excited to gain another first-round pick in the upcoming WNBA Draft," said Hughes. "Having two first-round picks is a unique opportunity for us to improve our organization. Any time you acquire value, you have to give up value in return. We appreciate all that Shenise has done during her time with the Stars organization and we wish her the very best in her future."

Johnson was originally selected by the Stars in the first round (fifth overall) of the 2012 WNBA draft out of the University of Miami. In her three-year WNBA career, she has appeared in 97 games and averaged 7.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 20.8 minutes.

The Stars tip off the 2015 season, presented by CHRISTUS Santa Rosa and H-E-B, in Phoenix against the defending champion Phoenix Mercury on June 5 at 9 p.m. The Stars 2015 home opener takes place on June 14 at the Freeman Coliseum against the Tulsa Shock at 3:30 p.m. Ticket plans for the upcoming season are now available.
