
Starfires Squeak Past Bravehearts

Worcester, MA - The Worcester Bravehearts dropped Thursday evening's contest 3-2 against the Westfield Starfires at Fitton Field.
Westfield overcame a 1-0 deficit in the top of the eighth, scoring all three of their runs in the frame to take a lead they would not relinquish.
The Bravehearts sit at 13-5 after the loss while Westfield moves to 11-9.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning, when the Bravehearts struck first. After Stan Zagrodnik (Wofford) led off with a walk, he scored on a Tyler Bastunas (Drury) fielder's choice.
Westfield rallied in the eighth to take the lead. After Corey Zientek (Coastal Carolina) led off with a walk, he scored on an RBI double by Nick Serce (Alfred State). Serce and Dan Burnett (Westfield State) came home on a two-run double by JD Jones (Miami).
The Bravehearts cut the deficit to one run in the bottom of the inning when Kevin Matos (Wheaton) doubled home Jack Thorbahn (Northeastern) but were unable to score again in the final two innings.
Starfires reliever Joe Espinola (Westfield State) picked up the win, giving up one earned run in two innings on three hits while striking out one. EJ Nevills (Amherst College) took the loss for the Bravehearts, allowing three earned runs in 3.1 innings on four hits and two walks, striking out five. Ryan Robb (Husson) threw a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save for Westfield.
The Bravehearts continue their four-game homestand tomorrow evening against the New Britain Bees. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
