Columbus Wardogs News Release
Columbus, GA - Another big dog has joined the pack as Wardogs head coach John Fourcade continues to build a playoff contender in Columbus. Veteran arena football quarterback Mike Gluski, who threw for 55 touchdowns and won all 13 games he started last year, has been added to the roster and is expected to play this Saturday when the Wardogs open the season against Memphis. One of the top quarterbacks in the league for the past three seasons, Gluski has won 22 of his 25 starts in af2.
The 27-year-old Gluski led the Macon Knights to a 3-0 start last year, throwing for 623 yards and 14 touchdowns. He continued that success after being traded to the Cape Fear Wildcats, throwing for 2,213 yards and 41 touchdowns while winning all ten games he started. A shoulder injury ended his season only two weeks before the playoffs.
Gluski began his pro football career in 1998 and 1999 as a back-up quarterback with the Milwaukee Mustangs of the Arena Football League. In 2000, he threw for 730 yards, 19 touchdowns and no interceptions in limited duty with the af2 league champion Quad City Steamwheelers. Quad City went 19-0 and Gluski's 135.8 quarterback rating led the league.
Gluski returned to Quad City in 2001, throwing for 300 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions in the Steamwheelers first six games. His 141.6 quarterback rating led the league when he was traded to the Macon Knights. Gluski proceeded to lead the Knights to the playoffs, throwing for 2,290 yards and 43 touchdowns in 11 games.
Gluski enters this season as one of the most experienced quarterbacks in the af2, and is in the af2 career top ten in several passing categories including completions (517), attempts (907), yards (6,156) and touchdowns (122).
Gluski becomes the latest "big name" af2 player to arrive in Columbus. The Wardogs roster already includes former Tallahassee stars WR/DB James Dickerson and FB/LB Mesiah Porter, along with former Florida WR/LB Joe Valencia and Mobile DS Dennis Skains.
