CHARLOTTE, NC - The Carolina Cobras announced the signing of former Arena Football League rushing leader and All-Rookie Team member Travis Reece along with Charlotte natives DeAngelo Lloyd and Troy Pelshak. The team also came to contract terms with offensive specialist Antonio Stanley and offensive/defensive lineman Greg Walls.
Reece (6-3, 255, Michigan State) brings a physical presence to the Cobras backfield, recording 397 rushing yards and 60 tackles during his three-year AFL career with the Georgia Force and Nashville Kats. Last season, he bruised his way to seven rushing touchdowns and a career-high 23.5 tackles in 14 games for the Force. As a rookie in 2001, Reece led Nashville to a berth in ArenaBowl XV, earning All-Rookie Team recognition after leading the league with 190 rushing yards. Prior to joining the AFL, he spent two seasons as a fullback with the Detroit Lions of the NFL.
Lloyd (6-4, 285, Tennessee) returns to the Charlotte area for his first season as an offensive/defensive lineman in the AFL. Pelshak (6-3, 255, North Carolina A&T) makes his debut in the AFL after spending the past two seasons with the Barcelona Dragons of NFL Europe. He was originally signed out of North Carolina A&T in 1999 as an undrafted free agent by the St. Louis Rams. Pelshak recorded 11 tackles on defense and special teams over two seasons with the Rams (1999-2000). He began his football career as a standout linebacker at Garinger High School in Charlotte.
Stanley (5-9, 180, Bethune-Cookman) joins the Cobras after spending the past two seasons with the Orlando Predators, where he recorded over 1,530 all-purpose yards in just 13 contests. The receiver and kick return specialist had his most successful season in 2002 as he collected 50 passes for 564 yards and eight touchdowns and returned 36 kickoffs for 637 yards and a score.
Walls (6-2, 290, South Florida) also begins his first season in the AFL after spending four seasons as a dominant force on the defensive line at the University of South Florida. Over his final 22 collegiate games, he led the Bulls with 120 tackles, 10.5 sacks and 34 tackles for loss.
