Calgary Stampeders News Release
The Calgary Stampeders have signed American defensive lineman Julian Howsare.
The 30-year-old Altoona, Penn., product was an East Division all-star defensive end in 2022 as a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and has played 62 career regular-season games in the Canadian Football League seasons. In four seasons with Hamilton, Howsare accumulated 112 defensive tackles including 10 tackles for loss, five special-teams tackles, 21 sacks, three knockdowns, one forced fumble and two interceptions.
In earning division all-star recognition in 2022, Howsare shared the Ticats lead with seven sacks and also recorded 30 defensive tackles including two tackles for loss, one special-teams stop, two interceptions and one knockdown. The interceptions - in Week 7 against BC and in Week 19 against Calgary - were the first two of his CFL career and he returned them for a total of 53 yards.
Howsare participated in the post-season in each of his four CFL campaigns and has been productive, amassing 25 tackles including a tackle for loss, two sacks, one special-teams tackle, one fumble recovery and one knockdown in eight games.
Prior to joining the Ticats, Howsare spent time in the National Football League with the New York Jets and Seattle Seahawks. He dressed for two games with the Jets in 2016.
In college, Howsare played 43 games over four years at Clarion University of Pennsylvania. During his career with the Golden Eagles, he accumulated 256 tackles including 47.5 tackles for loss, 33 sacks, nine forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and three interceptions.
Howsare was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-West defensive player of the year in both 2013 and 2014. He was a third-team all-American in 2012 and 2013 and a second-team all-American in 2012.
