Calgary Stampeders News Release

The Calgary Stampeders are asking fans to help Calgarians in need at the Stamps' final regular-season home game on Oct. 23, against the Edmonton Eskimos.

The Calgary Stampeders will team up with the Salvation Army for the seventh annual Coat Drive to help collect new or gently used coats-or cash donations-prior to kickoff of Friday's game. Salvation Army volunteers will be at each entrance gate of McMahon Stadium to collect the donations.

"In our economic state, the need for jackets is greater than ever," said Jeremaine Copeland, the Stamps' representative with the Salvation Army. "We've seen a drop in the number of donations over the last couple of years and I hope that this year we can really increase our totals. Our fans always support these excellent causes and I'm sure this will be no different."

Last season, approximately 800 jackets and $3,200 in cash were collected, bringing the six-year total to 6,220 coats and more than $11,700 raised.

Fans looking to donate jackets prior to or following Friday's game can drop them off at the Salvation Army Booth Centre which is located at 631, 7 Ave. S.E.

The coats will be distributed to those in need on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Salvation Army Centre of Hope which is located at 420, 9 Ave. S.E. Copeland will be on hand from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. to help with distribution.
