The Calgary Stampeders wrap up their two-game pre-season schedule with a trip north to face the Edmonton Elks on Friday. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on 770 CHQR radio. There is no TV coverage of the contest.
This final tune-up will be the first of five meetings in 2022 between the Alberta rivals as Calgary and Edmonton will square off four times during the regular season for the first time since 2012. Prior to the Labour Day home-and-home series, the Red and White will also play two straight games against the Elks on Saturday, June 25 and Thursday, July 7.
Last week's initial action saw the Stamps beat BC by a score of 41-6 and the Green and Gold triumph 30-20 over Winnipeg.
After a scoreless opening quarter with the Lions, Calgary went on to score touchdowns on offence, defence and special teams as all four quarterbacks saw time under centre. Head coach Dave Dickenson dressed 78 players in the victory but is expected to rest several veterans this time around in advance of next week's regular-season opener.
As for Edmonton, former Stamps pivot Nick Arbuckle finished his abbreviated outing completing nine of 10 attempts with a pair of touchdown passes as he looks to land the Elks' starting job.
Friday marks the last opportunity for players to crack the roster as final cuts must be made the following day.
Thursday, June 9 will see Calgary open the CFL's regular season when the Alouettes visit McMahon Stadium. Edmonton will hit the road in Week 1 for a clash with the Lions on Saturday, July 11.
