Calgary Stampeders News Release

Calgary Stampeders head coach/general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce the signing of three free-agent import defensive tackles - Kenny King, Tom Johnson and Montey Stevenson.

"All three of these players are good prospects for the nose tackle position," said Hufnagel. "They're all big, strong men who have athleticism and the ability to be disruptive inside."

King attended University of Alabama and was selected in the fifth round (141st overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. He spent four seasons with the Cardinals before the Baltimore Ravens signed him in 2007 and assigned him to NFL Europa's Frankfurt Galaxy. At 27, King stands six-foot-three, 295 pounds.

Johnson attended camp with the Indianapolis Colts twice - in 2006 and 2007 - and they assigned him to the Cologne Centurions of NFL Europa League in February of 2007. Johnson, 24, measures six-foot-three, 293 pounds and attended University of Southern Mississippi for two years after transferring from Gulf Coast Community College.

Stevenson is a product of University of North Texas and was named the team's top defensive lineman as a senior in 2007. He attended New Orleans Saints rookie minicamp in 2008 and spent time with the New Orleans VooDoo of the Arena League. The 23-year-old is six-foot-two, 290 pounds.

The 2008 Grey Cup champions open their 2009 regular season at McMahon Stadium on July 1 against the Montreal Alouettes. Season tickets are on sale now by calling the Stampeders' Ticket Office at (403) 289-0258.
