Calgary Stampeders News Release
Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel today announced that import defensive lineman Vincent Redd, import quarterback Mike Desormeaux and import receiver Deon Murphy have been added to the practice roster.
Redd signed with the National Football League's New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2008. The six-foot-six, 260-pounder played five games during the 2008 season, recording two defensive tackles, six special teams tackles and one forced fumble. The Liberty University product was claimed off waivers by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2009.
Desormeaux was signed by the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 2009 following a stellar four-season career at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. The six-foot, 215-pound pivot was named the Sun Belt Conference's offensive player of the year his senior season after completing 155 of 247 passes for 1,876 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also ran for 1,043 yards and five touchdowns. He was a four-time conference all-star, including two first-team nods.
Murphy played two seasons for the Kansas State Wildcats and accumulated 94 receptions for 1,160 yards and 11 touchdowns. In 2007, he led the Big 12 with a punt-return average of 17.5 yards. Prior to enrolling at Kansas State, the five-foot-10, 170-pounder played at Coffeyville Junior College and in 2006 was first-team all-conference both as a receiver and a kick returner.
Hufnagel also announced that import linebacker Tray Blackmon has been released from the practice roster.
The next Stamps home game is Oct. 17 against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Kickoff is 1:30 p.m. at McMahon Stadium. Limited tickets are still available and fans are encouraged to pick up their tickets by contacting Ticketmaster (403.777.0000 or online at Ticketmaster.ca) or visiting any local Safeway or Sport Chek location.
