(Calgary) – Today Calgary Stampeders' Head Coach and VP of Football Operations Tom Higgins announced the free agent signing of Defensive Lineman Randy Chevrier.

As per Club policy terms of the contract were not disclosed.

"I am extremely excited to have Randy join this football team and have the opportunity to work with him again. He is an outstanding long snapper and will push the current defensive line for playing time. He is both a professional on and off the field. Randy's family was such a big part of the community and fabric in Edmonton, we look forward to them joining us in Calgary," stated Head Coach and VP of Football Operations Tom Higgins.

"My decision to come to Calgary was an easy one. I feel this organization has taken all the right steps to compete for the Grey Cup. I'm excited in reuniting with Tom Higgins as we've always had a great relationship," stated Randy Chevrier.

Entering his first season with the Calgary Stampeders ... in 2001 Randy was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 7th round of the 2001 draft (241st overall) ... he was also drafted the same year in the Canadian College Draft by the Edmonton Eskimos in the 1st round (5th overall) ... in 2001 he attended Jacksonville's training camp ... was released on September 2, 2001 and claimed by Dallas the next day ... Randy was the long snapper for the first eight games of the 2001 season ... he was waived by Dallas November 13th and signed with Cincinnati December 4th ... Randy was the Bengals long snapper for the final 5 games of the 2001 campaign ... in 2002 Randy was a late cut from Cincinnati's training camp ... he was then allocated to NFL Europe with the Barcelona Dragons where he recorded 7 tackles, 1 forced fumble, and 3 special team stops ... in 2003 he played in all 18 regular season games, the western final and Grey Cup Championship with the Edmonton Eskimos ... in 2004 Randy signed with the New York Jets and was released during training camp.

2004

Signed with the New York Jets ... played in pre-season ... released on August 30th, 2004.

2003

Played in all 18 regular season games with the Eskimos ... recording 15 defensive tackles, 6 special team tackles, 3 knockdowns and 1 quarterback sack ... had his biggest game statistical on July 25th vs the Saskatchewan Roughriders where he recorded 4 defensive tackles and 1 knockdown ... the following game he recorded another strong game vs the Renegades on July 31st recording 3 defensive tackles, 1 special team tackle and a quarterback sack ... played in the western final vs the Roughriders recording 1 special team tackle and the 91st Grey Cup Championship in Regina as the Eskimos would defeat the Alouettes by a score of 33-24 ... Randy did not recorded any stats in the game.

2002

Appeared in 5 regular season games with the Edmonton Eskimos and registered 4 defensive tackles. Randy made his Eskimo debut Week #14 (September 29 @ Hamilton) and recorded 1 tackle ... before joining the Eskimos Randy attended the Cincinnati Bengals training camp ... sent to NFL Europe playing in all 10 games with the Barcelona Dragons.

2001

In 2001 Randy was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 7th round of the 2001 draft (241st overall) ... was a late cut in Jacksonville's training camp, he spent the remainder of the season with both the Dallas Cowboys and Cincinnati Bengals ... he was also drafted the same year in the Canadian College Draft by the Edmonton Eskimos in the 1st round (5th overall) ... attended Jaguars camp ... was released and signed with the Dallas Cowboys for half the season ... played the 2nd half of the season with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Randy received 23 major awards during his college career ... didn't have a botched snap in five years ... holds school's all-time record with 20.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage ... versatile athlete who started at defensive tackle, end, rush end and nose guard ... also saw action as a blocker on offence in short-yardage situations ... played 40 games, making 157 tackles (82 solo) and 10 sacks.

2000

He was the first player in school history to receive the J.P. Metras trophy for the outstanding lineman in universities ... recipient of the Alouette alumni trophy, for the outstanding player in Quebec football ... named team's Most Valuable Lineman by the touchdown club and winner of the friends of McGill Football Trophy, given to the best defensive player ... teams most valuable player ... unanimous Ontario-Quebec Intercollegiate Football Conference first-team pick ... team co-captain, earning player of the week four times ... played in the East-West Shrine game.

1999

Canadian Intercollegiate Athletics Union All-Canadian second team pick ... added all-OQIFC first team honours ... recipient of the Fred Wigle Memorial trophy, given to team's most sportsmanlike player ... team co-captain.

Winner of the John Chomay award to the student who best combines academics and athletics.

Only third defensive lineman to earn conference Rookie of the Year honours ... recipient of the Fred Dupre Trophy given to team's top freshman.
