Sioux Falls Stampede News Release
The Sioux Falls Stampede captured their second straight win Saturday night in Lincoln, NE with a 3-2 shootout win over the Lincoln Stars.
For the third straight game the Stampede started out quick, scoring 8:26 into the first period on a powerplay goal by Brandon Harrington (Rochester, MN). Tom Gorowsky (Lino Lakes, MN) and Aleksandrs Jerofejevs (Riga, Latvia) recorded assists on the goal. The Stampede extended their lead to two when Gorowsky took a pass from Andrew Carroll (Shoreview, MN) and beat the Stars netminder to make it 2-0 after one period. The Stampede outshot the Stars 14-5 in the period.
After a scoreless second period, the Stars rebounded in the third, scoring two goals and forcing overtime. In the extra session, neither team was able to score and the game went into a shootout where the Stampede outscored the Stars 3-2 in nine rounds. Ryan Thang (Edina, MN) scored the game winner in the ninth round while Greg Barrett (Troy, MI) shutdown the Stars to capture the win. Barrett stopped 33 shots to earn his second victory of the season.
The Stampede improved to 2-1-0 on the season while the Stars dropped to 3-1-1.
STAMPEDE PREPARE FOR BUSY WEEK
After starting the season only playing three games in three weeks, the Stampede season kicks into full swing this week with three games in four days. The Stampede host the Omaha Lancers this Wednesday night before playing at Tri-City on Friday night and at Sioux City on Saturday night.
Omaha is 4-1-0 on the season and in first place in the West. The Lancers have a strong offense that features the top three scorers in the league:
Trevor Smith (6g, 6a), Brock Bradford (5g, 5a), and Corey Carlson (2g, 8a).
Jeff Lerg has appeared in all five games and is 4-1-0 on the season with a 1.99 GAA.
Scouting Tri-City and Sioux City
Tri-City is currently 3-2-0 on the season and are led in scoring by Jaroslav Markovic (1g, 3a). They split a pair of games with the Chicago Steel over the weekend, winning 4-2 on Friday and losing 3-1 on Saturday.
Sioux City enters this weekend with a 3-1-1 record and are led in scoring by Dennis McCauley and Nick Kemp who both have five points on the year. The Musketeers split a pair of games in Green Bay last weekend, losing 6-4 on Friday and winning 3-1 yesterday afternoon.
DID YOU KNOW?
Former Stampede star, Thomas Vanek scored the game-winning goal in overtime last night to lead the Rochester Americans to a 4-3 win over Cleveland. Vanek finished the preseason with three goals and two assists in four games.
