Ralston, NE - The Omaha Lancers scored with just 1.2 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime, but the Stampede would get the last laugh as they earned a 4-3 shootout victory Sunday afternoon at Ralston Arena.

Artem Ivanyuzhenkov and Andre Lee scored in the shootout while Chad Veltri stopped three of four shooters to lead the Stampede to victory. The win was the Herd's second straight and improved their record to 8-5-2, good enough for fifth place in the West. Jared Westcott, Jami Krannila and Anthony Romano all scored in regulation while Veltri stopped 38 of 41 shots to earn the win in goal.

The game didn't start the way the Herd had drawn it up as the Lancers scored just 16 seconds into the contest when Austen Long took the puck behind the Stampede net and sent a pass into the slot for Chase Bradley who slapped it into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Omaha controlled play for the next five minutes, but the Stampede were able to keep the Lancers off the board.

The Herd tied the game at 13:59 when Jared Westcott tallied his fourth of the season. Brian Chambers took the puck and drove towards the net where he was stopped, but the puck bounced to Westcott was on the spot to put it away. The Stampede followed that up with their first power play goal in a month as Jami Krannila tallied his fifth of the year. Krannila took a pass from Max Crozier at center ice, split the Omaha defense and fired a perfect shot into the upper right hand corner of the net for a 2-1 lead. It broke a 0-for-27 stretch for the Herd and gave them a lead heading into the second period.

In the second the Stampede gave the Lancers a taste of their own medicine, scoring just 31 seconds into the period. Artem Ivanyuzhenkov danced around the Lancers defense before spinning and sending a pass in through the slot to Anthony Romano who backhanded the puck past Omaha goaltender Jacob Kucharski for a 3-1 advantage. The Stampede had a chance later in the period to add to their lead, but couldn't convert on the power play and the game remained 3-1 entering the third. Sioux Falls outshot Omaha 9-8 in the period.

The Lancers began their comeback 2:33 into the third when Grant Anderson's blast on the power play beat Chad Veltri to make it a 3-2 game. The Lancers would continue to try and rally back during the third and pulled their goaltender with 2:45 remaining for an extra attacker. Right when it appeared the Stampede were going to survive a shot from Jaden Shields with 1.2 seconds left found the back of the net to force overtime. Omaha outshot the Herd 17-9 in the period.

Both teams exchanged some quality scoring chances in the overtime, but either could convert and the game went into a shootout. Ivanyuzhenkov gave the Herd the early edge with a beautiful fake and forehand shot into the net for a 1-0 lead. Omaha responded in round two to tie up, but the Herd took the lead for good in round four when Andre Lee took the puck between the circles and blasted a shot into the upper left hand corner of the net. Veltri denied Brendan Furry and the Herd captured back-to-back wins on the weekend.

Omaha outshot the Stampede 41-34 on the night and went 1-for-2 on the power play while the Herd were 1-for-4.

The Stampede return to action Saturday night when they host the Dubuque Fighting Saints inside the PREMIER Center at 7:05 PM. It is also the Herd's annual Teddy Bear Toss night. Fans are encouraged to bring new stuffed animals to the game and toss them onto the ice after the Herd's first goal. All bears collected will be donated to local non-profit organizations for the holidays. Tickets are available through the PREMIER Center or any Ticketmaster outlet.
