
Stampede Take Two of Three over Weekend

LAST WEEK: The Sioux Falls Stampede captured four of a possible six points with wins over River City and Danville.
Wednesday, January 14 vs River City: Stampede forward Matt Ford recorded his first hat trick of the season, leading the Stampede to an 8-4 victory over River City. Down 1-0 in the first, the Stampede got goals from Ford, Jim McKenzie, and Jeff Prough to take a 3-1 lead into the second period. Ford would tally two more goals in the second to record a hat-trick and the Stampede took a 5-3 lead into the third period. There, Stampede got goals from Drew Sando, Andrew Carroll and Jon Globke enroute to an 8-4 win.
Friday, January 16th vs Danville: Down 2-1 in the second period, the Stampede scored five times in the second period to take a 6-4 lead into the third period. Matt Ford scored his second goal of the game just 14 seconds in while Jim McKenzie, Brandon Harrington, Justin White and Jon Globke all added goals. Matt Ford completed his second hat-trick in as many games, scoring midway through the third period to seal a 7-5 victory for the Stampede.
Saturday. January 17th at River City: In a rematch of Wednesday night's game, the Lancers squeaked past the Stampede 5-3. After a scoreless first period, River City scored three times in the first half of the second period to take a 3-0 lead. The Stampede responded when Kyle Laughlin tallied his first goal as a member of the Stampede at 13:46. Jeff Prough then added a goal of his own on a 5-on-3 power play for the Stampede. Jim McKenzie tied the game with just seven seconds remaining in the second period. The Lancers got a power play goal late in the third to take a 4-3 and added an empty netter to capture the game 5-3.
UP NEXT: The Stampede will play four games in six days this week. On Tuesday, the Stampede will visit Cedar Rapids to take on the East Division leading RoughRiders. On Friday, the Stampede will faceoff in Kearney, NE against Tri-City before traveling to Lincoln on Saturday to take on the Stars. The Stampede will then play at home Sunday night hosting I-29 rivals, Sioux City Musketeers. Game time is 6:05PM on Sunday and 7:05 PM on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.
ROUGHRIDERS UPDATE: The RoughRiders are currently tied for first place in the East Division with the Chicago Steel at 48 points. The RoughRiders are coming off a 4-3 OT shootout win over Chicago last Saturday. Billy Loupee lead the way for the RoughRiders with two goals while James Brannigan, Jon Grabarek and Bryan Horan all scored in the shootout to lift Cedar Rapids to victory.
TRI-CITY UPDATE: The Storm currently holds a one-point lead over River City for first place in the West Division with a 23-9-4 record. Tri-City is coming off a 3-2 overtime win over Green Bay on Saturday. Kyle Kuk and Mark Van Guilder scored first period goals for the Storm before Green Bay rallied to tie and send the game into overtime. Bill Thomas scored in the extra session to give Tri-City a 3-2 win and a lock of the top spot in the West Standings.
STARS UPDATE: Lincoln comes into this weekend in fourth place in the West Division with a 19-15-3 record. The Stars went 2-0 last week, recoding a 1-0 win over Tri-City and a 3-1 triumph over Danville last Saturday. The Stampede leads the season series between the two teams 3-0.
MUSKETEERS UPDATE: Sioux City is currently in third place in the West Division with a 22-9-3 record. Defenseman Michael Hodgson leads the team in scoring with 31 points on eight goals and 23 assists. The Musketeers captured three wins last weekend, with wins over Green Bay, Waterloo and Danville. Sioux City is 7-2-1 in their last 10 games.
HE'S GOT THE MAGIC STICK: In three games played last week, Stampede forward Matt Ford tallied six goals and five assists for eleven points. To accompany his impressive point total, Ford registered a plus/minus rating of plus-7. Ford has 13 points in his last five games on eight goals and five assists.
HOT STREAKS: Team captain, Jim McKenzie has 16 points on six goals and 10 assists in his last ten games while linemate, Jeff Prough has 12 points on three goals and nine assists.
TEAM LEADER: Jim McKenzie currently leads the Stampede in scoring with 37 points on 16 goals and 21 assists.
LETHAL WEAPONS: The Stampede's lethal weapon line of Matt Ford, Jim McKenzie and Jeff Prough have accumulated 30 points on 13 goals and 17 assists in their last five games. The line has also registered a plus/minus rating of plus-12.
NICE CROWDS: The Stampede attracted crowds of over 4,000 during each of their last two home games.
