STAMPEDE UPDATE: The Stampede played back-to-back home games for the first time since January 2nd and 3rd last weekend.
Friday, February 13th vs Waterloo: Down 2-0 in the second, Greg Costa tallied his first goal of the season at 2:10 of the period to make it 2-1. Matt Ford followed that with a goal of his own just minutes later to tie the game at two at the 6:06 mark. Joel Hanson put the Hawks up 3-2 at 11:46 on a powerplay goal and Waterloo went on to win the game 5-3. Kasey Moreland got the start between the pipes, making 34 saves on the night.
Saturday, February 14h vs Des Moines: The Stampede jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 15 seconds into the game courtesy of Matt Ford's 21st goal of the season. Greg Costa countered with his second goal the weekend at 7:58 to give the Stampede a 2-1 lead. Ford notched his second goal of the period 38 seconds later to give the Herd a 3-1 lead in the first period. Des Moines rallied and scored six unanswered goals to take a 7-4 decision over the Stampede.
UP NEXT: The Stampede will play three games in four days starting on Wednesday with a home game versus the Sioux City Musketeers. On Friday the Stampede will travel to Sioux City for a rematch and on Saturday they will play in Waterloo against the Black Hawks.
MUSKETEERS UPDATE: The Musketeers have won three of their last four games and are currently 29-11-4 on the year and in third place in the West Division with 62 points. Last Friday, the Musketeers shutout the River City Lancers, 3-0. Three different players scored while Jeff Lerg turned away all 22 shots faced. On Saturday, River City bounced back with a 6-1 win over the Musketeers. River City scored three times in the second and three times in the third en-route to the 3-0 victory. Last night, the Musketeers defeated Cedar Rapids 7-3. Brian Bales, Adam Krug and Blair Yaworski led the Musketeers with three points (1g, 2a) each in the win. The Musketeers are led in scoring by Matt Hartman with 38 points (17g, 21a) while goaltender's Jimmy Spratt and Jeff Lerg have lead the team defensively posting a combined record of 29-11-4 with a 2.50 GAA.
BLACK HAWKS UPDATE: The Black Hawks are currently ridding a six-game winning streak. Last week the Hawks captured wins over Sioux Falls, Cedar Rapids and St. Louis. On Saturday, the Black Hawks defeated Cedar Rapids 3-1. Three different players scored while Kevin Regan stopped 23 shots in the win. On Sunday, the Hawks defeated St. Louis 3-1. Garret Regan led the Hawks with a goal and an assist while Kevin Regan made 23 saves between the pipes. The Hawks are currently 22-18-3 and in third place in the East Division with 47 points. Joel Hanson leads the Hawks in scoring with 42 points (12g, 30a) while Kevin Regan has seen the majority of the time in net with a 20-13-1 and a 2.44 GAA.
TEAM LEADERS: Matt Ford leads the Stampede in goals scored (22) while Jim McKenzie currently leads the Stampede in assists (27), points (45), plus/minus (plus-11) and shots (148).
ANTHEM SINGER: Layne Larson will perform the National Anthem this Wednesday night prior to the start of the Stampede vs Sioux City game. The 20-year-old was raised on a family farm near Pukwana, South Dakota, and discovered her musical talent at an early age, writing her first song by age 9. She has been in the studio putting the finishing touches on her debut CD, âThe Great Pretender', which is set to for national release on March 16th. PLAYHOUSE PROMENADE: The fourth edition of the Playhouse Promenade is now on display at The Emprie Mall (JC Penny wing). There are four new life-like playhouses on display through the month of February and will be sold by a silent bid. Interested home owners can pick up a bid sheet at the playhouses or through the Stampede website (www.sfstampede.com).
Members of the Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire, will be on hand this Wednesday night at the Stampede game to sell raffle benefit the four playhouse charities. For a $1 donation, you could possibly win two round trip airline tickets anywhere in the continental USA compliments of AAA Travel Agency or 4 Stampede Season Tickets for the 2004-05 campaign! Look for a charity representative at the front lobby on Wednesday night.
