Stampede Rally Late, But Fall in OT to Des Moines

Sioux Falls, SD-The Stampede rallied from a late two-goal deficit to tie the game and force overtime, but came up just short in a 4-3 loss to the Des Moines Buccaneers before 4,913 fans at the PREMIER Center on Friday night. Adam Dawe scored with 1:02 remaining in regulation to force overtime and tallied two goals on the night while Jaxson Stauber stopped 37 of 41 shots in his USHL debut. The Herd gained a point in the game and now stand at 3-1-2 on the season while Des Moines improved to 2-3-0.
After a scoreless first period in which the Bucs outshot the Stampede 15-10, the Bucs grabbed the first goal of the game at 7:22 of the second when Reed Lebster beat Jaxson Stauber to make it a 1-0 game. That would be the only goal of the period despite the Stampede outshooting the Bucs 13-10.
Things picked up in the third and started with the Herd tying the game just 57 seconds into the period when Adam Dawe tallied his fifth of the season. Carson Dimoff took the puck out of the neutral zone and into the offensive zone on a 2-on-1 where he fed Dawe who broke in and backhanded a shot into the net to tie it at one. The Herd nearly made it 2-1 just seconds later when Dawe wrapped the puck around the goal, but was stopped right on the line by Buccaneers goaltender Jake Kucharski. The Bucs would earn the next two goals at 3:14 and 7:21 to take a 3-1 lead on the Herd.
The Bucs were putting on all kinds of pressure later in the third trying to put the game out of reach, but the Herd were able to clear the zone and a nice chip pass from Ben Thomas to Brandon Tabakin who wristed a shot from the left circle over the shoulder of Kucharski to bring the Herd back within a goal at 3-2 and instill some life into the club. The Herd pulled Stauber with 90 seconds remaining in regulation for an extra attacker and it would pay off with 1:02 remaining as Artem Ivanyuzenkov's shot was stopped, but the rebound bounced to Dawe who tallied his second goal of the game and fourth of the weekend to tie the game 3-3 and eventually force overtime.
The overtime was filled with all kinds of excitement as both teams traded quality scoring chances. Nolan Walker was denied on a breakaway and Stauber shut down the Bucs on the other end. Just over three minutes into overtime Dawe found himself on a breakaway and a chance to win the game, but Kucharski got his left pad down just enough to stop the puck and the Bucs broke free the other way and scored to win the game when Nicolas Werbik blasted the puck just under the crossbar for the 4-3 victory.
Des Moines outshot the Herd 41-38 on the night and went 0-for-2 on the power play while the Stampede finished the night 0-for-3.
The Herd close out their long weekend of three games in three days by entertaining Waterloo Saturday night at 7:05 PM. Kids are invited to wear their costumes and trick-or-treat in the concourse from 6-7 PM. They can also take part in a special costume parade on the ice during the first intermission, presented by Halloween Express.
