
Stampede Prepare for Three Games in Four Days

LAST WEEK: The Sioux Falls Stampede fell to the Sioux City Musketeers and the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders last weekend.
Friday, January 9th at Sioux City: Sioux City used a quick first period to defeat the Stampede 4-0 at the Tyson Events Center. Michael Hodgson had a goal and an assist while Matt Hartman recorded two assists in the win. Kasey Moreland stopped all 35 shots faced after replacing Craig Vardy late in the first period.
Saturday, January 10th vs Cedar Rapids: The Stampede jumped out of the gates quick, scoring just 2:47 on Matt Ford's 10th goal of the season. Cedar Rapids tallied three goals in the second period to take a 3-1 lead into the third period. Matt Ford scored his second goal of the game just 59 seconds into the period for the Stampede to make it a 3-2 game. The Stampede put on a flurry of shots at the end of the contest, but came up short, falling 3-2. The Stampede out shot the RoughRiders 21-6 in the third period and got 35 saves from Kasey Moreland.
UP NEXT: The Stampede will play three games in four days starting with a home contest this Wednesday versus River City. The Stampede will then host the Danville Wings on Friday before traveling to Council Bluffs to take on the Lancers Saturday night.
RIVER CITY UPDATE: The Lancers recorded two wins over the weekend. On Friday, they defeated Cedar Rapids 4-1. Paul Stastny had two goals in the contest while Nick Schaus, Brett Motherwell and Mike Howe added two assists each in the win. On Saturday, the Lancers defeated Tri-City 4-3 in a shootout. Four different players scored for the Lancers who tied the game at 6:20 of the third period to send it to overtime. Mike Ramirez had the only goal in the shootout to give the Lancers the win. The Lancers are now 21-7-3 on the year and currently in second place in the West Division with 45 points.
DANVILLE UPDATE: The Wings dropped three games over the weekend. On Friday, the Wings fell to the Chicago 2-0. On Saturday, Danville dropped a 4-3 decision in a shootout to the Green Bay Gamblers. Bryan Marshall scored late in the third to tie the game and guarantee the Wings at least one point on the night. On Sunday, the Chicago Steel topped the Wings 8-4. Travis Winter had two goals in the loss.
HOT STREAKS: Stampede forward; Matt Ford has 7 points (3G, 4A) in his last five games. Ford has registered 12 points (6G, 6A) in his last 10 games. Team captain, Jim McKenzie has 11 points (5G, 6A) in his last 10 games. In addition, Justin White and Jeff Prough both have tallied 4 assists in their last five games.
TEAM LEADER: Jim McKenzie currently leads the Stampede in scoring with 29 points on 13 goals and 16 assists. He also leads the team in plus/minus category as a plus-8 and leads the team in shots attempted with 103.
THE BRICK WALL: Goaltender, Kasey Moreland stopped 70 of 73 shots faced last weekend in games versus Sioux City and Cedar Rapids.
BIG "D": Rob Dubel currently leads the Stampede defense in scoring with 10 points.
STRONG INTEREST: The Stampede attracted crowds of over 4,000 during each of their last two home games.
HOME MAGIC: The Herd are 3-2 in their last five home games.
KELO-TV BROADCAST: KELO-TV will broadcast the upcoming Wednesday, January 14th game versus River City starting at 7PM. KELO-TV Sports Director, Travis Fossing will provide play-by-play coverage while Stampede CEO, Gary Weckwerth, will add color commentary. AIRPLANE TOSS: Friday, January 16 is Sioux Valley Hospital & Local Chrysler Dealers "Airplane Toss Night" fundraiser. Five prizes are up for grabs, they include: $1,000 in Cash from Your Local Chrysler Dealers, $500 in airline travel credits from AAA Travel Agency, $500 in South Dakota Furniture Mart merchandise and $500 in merchandise from The Empire Mall. Proceeds from the paper plane sales will benefit the Children's Miracle Network and Stampede "Foundation for Kids." Contest takes place after the game.
