VANEK HOPES TO RETURN TO

SABRES WEDNESDAY NIGHT-

Former Stampede star Thomas Vanek said late last week that he hopes to return to action this Wednesday when the Buffalo Sabres host Montreal.

Vanek has been out nearly a month with a fractured jaw suffered on February 7th when he was struck in the face with a puck in a game at Ottawa.

Vanek, who leads the Sabres in goals with 32, was trying different types of protection from his jaw at practice last Thursday. When he returns he will need to wear a special guard similar to a football face mask to cover his jaw.

The Sabres could use his help as they have lost three straight games and have fallen into ninth place in the Eastern Conference, one point back of Pittsburgh for the eighth and final playoff spot.
