Stallions Escape Hammerheads

Corpus Christi, TX - Last week the Houston Stallions (7-0) virtually had the game in hand against Corpus Christi by the end of the first half. This week, they found Corpus Christi a much tougher opponent have to stage a dramatic come from behind win 41-40.

"We struggled early in the game and got off to a slow start", said Head Coach Gerald Dockery. "We found a way to come back and win tonight which show the character of this team".

Corpus Christi led the game at halftime 20-12. Houston tied it up on their first possession of the second half when QB Robert Kent hit Damion Clark with an 18 yard TD pass and the Timon Marshall on a two point conversion attempt. The rest of the game see-sawed back and forth with Corpus Christi matching Houston score for score.

It wasn't until 7:29 of the fourth quarter that the Stallions took their first lead of the night. Following Hammerhead QB Anthony Andre's second interception of the night, Robert Kent led the Stallions on a 4 play 25 yard drive capped off with an 18 yard pass to Carlos Alsup for the score to go ahead 41-34.

The Hammerheads would answer with a score of their own to cut the gap to 41-40, but Hammerheads Head Coach Dustin Almond decided to go for two rather than kick the PAT. The try failed and the Hammerheads came up short. Corpus Christi would have one last opportunity late in the game, but Kicker Darren Brown missed an 18 yard field goal with 24 seconds on the clock to secure the Stallions win.

The Stallions will return to Merrell Center on Sunday May, 8th to host the Abilene Rough Riders. The team be using the Mothers Day game to help the fight against Breast Cancer. The team will be making a series of appearances around town in the upcoming week where fans can get 2 for 1 ticket vouchers to attend the game. They will also feature special jerseys that will be auctioned off following the game with the proceeds being donated to charity to help stamp out breast cancer. The Game is sponsored by Christus St. Catherine Hospital of Katy and Don Miguel Toyota of Katy.
