
SIFL Recaps: Harrisburg Wins First with Huge Comeback

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Fueled by a stellar defensive effort and timely touchdown passes by Richard Johnson, Harrisburg thundered back from a 40-16 second half deficit to defeat Erie to earn its first victory of the season.
Trailing 40-16 Richard Johnson hit LaRoi Johnson for a score and a J.R. Cipra UNO narrowed the gap to 40-23. Jermaine Thaxton then returned a fumble recovery for a score and with a Richard Johnson two point run the score then stood at 40-31. Cipra then hit another UNO to decrease the margin to 40-32.
Pinned back on the Explosion five, Erie quarterback Adam DeMichele was sacked in his own end zone by Alfred Dubose to make the score 40-34.
With just over a minute to go Johnson found a wide open Collis Martin for a score on fourth and ten from the Stampede 20 to give the Stampede the lead at 41-40. Erie missed a potential game-winning field goal as time expired.
SWASHBUCKLERS 71 MAGIC 63
HILDAGO, Tex. - Ben McLaughlin threw for 281 yards and eight touchdowns as Louisiana withstood a late RGV challenge for a road victory.
The Magic cut it to 65-63 on Vince Anderson's fumble recovery, but LA answered with a 3-yard Kendrick Perry run.
RGV advanced to the LA 2-yard line in the game's final moments, but backup QB Ramonce Taylor's fourth-down pass fell incomplete.
McLaughlin's 8 TDs went to five different receivers. Billy Garza threw for 287 yards and six TD and rushed for another before leaving the game with an injury.
STALLIONS 41, HAMMERHEADS 40
CORPUS CHRISTI, Tex. - Robert Kent threw three touchdown passes and rushed for two more as Houston escaped Corpus Christi to remain unbeaten.
Scott Palmer's 12-yard touchdown from Anthony Andre pulled the Hammerheads within a point. After a defensive stop, Corpus Christi had a chance to win but missed a field goal in the final minute.
Kent finished with 208 total yards.
RUFF RIDERS 88 CRUNCH 47
ABILENE, Tex. - Ty Forte threw for 244 yards and 5 five touchdowns as rushed for two more for Abilene, which had 100-yard receiving games from Robert Spells (103) and Juan Reese (121).
PANTHERS 61 RAIDERS 46
ALBANY, Ga. - Cecil Lester threw for 320 yards and 8 TDs as Albany used a 22-3 second half run to pull away from Richmond.
The Raiders led 29-27 early in the third quarter before three straight Albany touchdowns. Antwone Savage caught three touchdown passes and John Harris two.
The Panther defense registered five interceptions "" three from Demetrius McCray and two from Levan Richmond.
Damon Thompson caught four of Mike Potts' five passes for Richmond.
STEEL 69 FORCE 41
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - E.J. Nemeth threw six touchdown passes - three to Oderick Turner - and the Steel defense limited to Force to 8 second half points as Trenton won its fourth straight.
Turner had 8 catches for 144 yards. Nemeth also rushed for two scores.
Lamar Little rushed for two scores and three for two for Fayetteville, which had just 86 total yards.
LIONS 74 SPEED 61
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Gerald Gales caught five touchdown passes and while Anthony Merritt caught two scores, ran for another and threw for a fourth as defending champion Columbus outlasted Carolina.
The Speed tied the game three times in the third quarter, but Columbus answered each time used a Ramone Nickerson interception to make separation.
Columbus has now scored 70 or points in its last three games.
