Saugerties Stallions News Release
SAUGERTIES, NY - The Saugerties Stallions racked up 14 hits in their 8-3 victory over the Glens Falls Dragons Wednesday night.
After right-handed pitcher Noah DeLuga retired the side to open the game, the Stallions tallied two runs on three hits thanks to an RBI triple by second baseman Brett Heckert and an RBI single by shortstop Evan Goforth.
The following inning showed Glens Falls immediately going into their bullpen for right-handed pitcher Jake Washock.
The Stallions would continue hitting the baseball, but could not convert baserunners into runs, leaving the score at 2-0 Saugerties after two innings.
The Stallions struck again in the third inning when right fielder Easton Bertrand sent a two-run home run over the right-center field wall and first baseman Garrett Michel scored Goforth on an RBI triple soon after Goforth got on base via a triple to make it a 6-0 ballgame.
DeLuga finished his day in the fourth inning after pitching 3.0 innings with three hits, three walks, and three strikeouts while giving up no earned runs.
The next three innings would show shutout baseball between the two teams.
The Dragons got on the board in the seventh inning after first baseman Martin Marintchev ripped an RBI single to score left fielder Sam Browning. Right fielder Phillip Krpata drove in two RBIs on a single to cut the lead to three runs.
The next frame had the Stallions retaliate with a Goforth RBI double bringing home catcher Jake Skrine to make it a 7-3 lead.
The Stallions would add an insurance run in the eighth inning when extra hitter TJ Adams scored left fielder David Shackelford to give the Stallions an 8-3 lead.
Mason Speaker came into the game to pitch, striking out four batters in two innings of work to seal the deal for the Stallions, who now find themselves back at .500 on the season.
