
Stafford named AFL Offensive Player of the Week

TAMPA, FL -- Tampa Bay Storm quarterback Shane Stafford was named the Arena Football League's Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after leading the Storm to a 59-51 victory over the New Orleans VooDoo last Sunday afternoon.
Stafford completed 22-of-30 passes in the game for 267 yards and six touchdowns. He led the Storm to seven consecutive touchdown scoring drives to start the game. In fact, the Storm offense scored on nine of its ten possessions. The only possession which the Storm offense did not score was its final possession of the game, when kicker Nacho Brache missed a 33-yard field goal attempt.
In 13 starts this season Stafford has completed 258-of-412 passes for 3,212 yards and 60 touchdowns. He has also rushed for five touchdowns.
The third year AFL quarterback has helped to spark Tampa Bay to a five-game winning streak. With those wins, the Storm have jumped back into the postseason hunt. The Storm currently reside in the eighth and final playoff spot. With a win this weekend, Tampa Bay can clinch a playoff berth for the 14th consecutive season.
In addition to earning the league's Offensive Player of the Week award, Stafford was also recognized by the Arena Football League Writers Association as the organization's Player of the Week.
Stafford and the Storm travel to Dallas to take on the Desperados on Sunday, May 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 pm Eastern time. the game will not be televised but can be heard on 620-AM WDAE.
