ST. LOUIS - St. Louis CITY SC signed centerback Michael Wentzel on a short-term loan agreement from the Club's MLS NEXT Pro team St Louis CITY2. Wentzel will be available for Saturday's MLS regular-season match against New York City FC at 7:30 p.m. CT at CITYPARK.

Wentzel, 21, debuted for the senior team in the Concacaf Champions Cup Leg Two at Houston. The State College, Pennsylvania, native started and played the full 90 minutes for CITY SC against Houston in Leg Two. He represented the United States at the Pan Am Games last fall in Chile. Wentzel featured in both preseason camps for St. Louis CITY SC, playing in all five preseason matches.

In his first season in St. Louis, Wentzel played all 29 matches for St Louis CITY2 in 2023. He anchored a CITY2 backline to three clean sheets and helped lead the team seven wins in the last eight games to help push for a spot in the 2023 MLS Next Pro playoffs. Wentzel played 2,584 out of a possible 2,610 minutes for CITY2.

Per MLS rules, the short-term agreement allows clubs to sign players on loan from their MLS NEXT Pro affiliate for MLS, U.S. Open Cup, Concacaf Champions Cup, Canadian Championship and exhibition matches.
