LINCOLN, NE- Lincoln (29-13, 60-30) clinched the second half North Division title with an 11-2 rout of St. Joe (21-20, 47-42). Lincoln scored seven runs to put the game away in the fourth inning. The Saltdogs did not win a half championship in their first five years, but have won both the first and second half this season.
The Saltdogs jumped out on St. Joe with a run in the first on a Bryan Warner base hit and broke the game open in the fourth. Lincoln sent 11 men to the plate and scored seven times for an 8-0 lead. Brett Cooley hit his fourth home run of the series, a three-run shot to open up the lead.
After Lincoln tacked on single runs in the fifth and sixth for a 10-0 lead before St. Joe got on the board in the seventh on a two-run Misha Dworken single.
All nine Saltdogs hit safely and Pichi Balet, Bryan Warner and Brett Cooley combined for seven hits-two home runs-and nine runs batted in.
The Blacksnakes start a critical three-game series to conclude the road trip in St. Paul on Sunday at 4:05pm. Andrew Edwards (2-4) will take the bump for the 'Snakes against the Saints' Charlie Ruud (6-6). St. Joe enters the series two-and-a-half back in the wild card standings with seven games to play.
