St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release
St. Joseph, MO-Neither pitching staff would give in, but St. Joe (7-17) broke through to end a well pitched duel, 2-1 over Sioux Falls (7-16) in 15 innings. It was the longest game of the year-by innings-in the American Association.
The 'Snakes stole a run in the fourth off Tony Cogan as Mark Burke went halfway to second to draw a throw and the rundown allowed Ben Thomas to score the game's first run from third.
Sioux Falls got even in the sixth on Abner Arroyo's double to tie the game at 1-1. It would stay that way all the way until the 15th inning.
Terrell Merriman led off with a walk, stole second and was sacrificed to third. With the infield and outfield drawn in, Jimmy Mojica grounded a single to left to score Merriman and end the marathon at 15 innings and four hours and twenty-four minutes.
Matt Johnson (1-2) picked up the win with a pair of scoreless innings. Clint Marcus (1-1) took the loss for the Canaries.
St. Joe was outhit 12-6 but the pitching staff continued it's stinginess, allowing now just eight earned runs in the last 51 innings.
The two teams will be at it again Wednesday night at 7:05pm at Phil Welch Stadium. Evan Thomas (1-3) goes for the 'Snakes against the Canaries' Sean Donlin (0-1). Gates open at 6pm and fans can get their hair cut for free at the ballpark. Our broadcast will also be on the air at 6:45pm with the Heartland Health Pre-Game Show.
