October 6, 2006 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
St. George RoadRunners News Release

(Pleasanton CA October 6, 2006) The Golden Baseball League announced today that their newest team, the St. George Roadrunners, will begin building their 2007 roster with a player tryout set for November 6, 2006. The tryout camp will take place at Bruce Hurst Stadium at Dixie State College in St. George, Utah.

The tryout will begin at 7:30 A.M. with player check-in and will last until early evening. Skills to be evaluated include foot speed, arm strength and accuracy, defensive skills, hitting, and pitching ability.

Contracts will be offered to players selected at the end of the tryout.

This all-comers tryout welcomes all individuals with professional baseball abilities, but will be focused on finding players that can succeed at this level and have potential to move up through organized baseball. The Golden Baseball League has had 38 of their players acquired by major league organizations in the last year and a half with most of them going to High-A, Double-A, or Triple-A minor league teams. Most players in the league have recently completed successful collegiate careers or have minor league experience, along with a couple of players with big league time on each GBL team.

The tryout will be run by the Roadrunners' Manager Cory Snyder along with Nick Belmonte, of Independent League Consulting and former Salt Lake City Trappers manager, who has directed most of the player tryouts for the independent leagues during the last ten years.

"I'm looking forward to seeing prospective players and to begin building the 2007 St. George Roadrunners," said Manager Cory Snyder. "I'm sure we will have a lot of local Utah players, but based on the calls I've been receiving, I'm anticipating players coming in from many parts of the country. My focus will be on high-quality ballplayers that are high-quality individuals with strong potential for a professional baseball career."

To guarantee a spot, players must pre-register on-line at either www.goldenbaseball.com or www.stgeorgeroadrunners.com. Walk-ups on the day of the tryout may be accepted if there is space available, but it is not guaranteed. There is a fee of $25 for the tryout.

The league-wide tryout for all Golden Baseball League teams will be held later this year. Further details will be released once they become available.
