Sriram Hathwar Coming to Dunn Field

June 11, 2014 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL)
Elmira Pioneers News Release

This past May 29th, Sriram Hathwar, a 14 year old from Painted Post, emerged victorious in the 2014 Scripps Spelling Bee that was broadcast live on ESPN. It was quite an accomplishment for Hathwar as he became the first upstate New York winner in the competition since 1976. Hathwar has already been honored by the New York State legislature for his incredible performance in the spelling bee. Then, this coming Sunday, Hathwar will be recognized once again as the Elmira Pioneers welcome him to Dunn Field.

Hathwar, honored as a Ziff Law Firm hometown hero, will attend the game with family and friends and have a special treat for Pioneers fans just before the game begins. All the words he needed to spell to win the spelling bee were nice, but now he will face his toughest 18 words yet: the first and last names of the Elmira Pioneers starting lineup. Hathwar will be up in the Pioneers press box at the beginning of the game to spell out all the players' names, and you will not want to miss it.

Pioneers fans, your hometown team will have home games this Thursday and Friday at 7:05 PM before Sriram Hathwar comes to the ballpark on Sunday for the Pioneers' 5:05 PM game against the Newark Pilots. Historic Dunn Field has been bustling this season, drawing over 10,500 fans in the Pioneers' first three home contests, and Sriram will only add the excitement when he arrives on Sunday.
