SYRACUSE (NY) - The Syracuse Chiefs opened their spring training season yesterday afternoon with a 10-0 win over the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. Outfielder David Smith led the way with a 4 for 4 performance, including a homerun and 3 runs batted in. Brandon Magee and Jamie Vermilyea both threw one and two-thirds scoreless innings.
This afternoon the Iron Pigs got revenge by shutting out the Chiefs 5-0. Pedro Lopez was 2 for 2, at the plate and Ricky Romero started and threw one scoreless inning.
The Chiefs next game is on Saturday, against Lehigh Valley, in Clearwater.
The Chiefs open the 2008 season on Thursday, April 3 against the Louisville Bats, at Alliance Bank Stadium at 2:00 PM.
