San Angelo Colts News Release

Shreveport, LA--The San Angelo Colts found themselves in a familiar situation while facing the Shreveport Sports, in a tight ballgame. These two teams have now played 9 games and in 7 of those 9 games, the winning team has done so by 2 runs or less. These two teams would each open with a run in the 1st inning, with the Colts getting an RBI groundout from Juan Rocha, and the Sports an RBI groundout from Derek Patterson. The starting pitchers Dave Therneau and Thad Markray would each twirl gems, however neither would figure into the decision. Therneau would go 6 innings, allowing 2 runs while striking out 8. Markray lasted 7 innings, with just 1 run crossing, and 5 K's. The Sports scratched across a run in the 6th on a Jorge Alvarez single. Terry Bevington summoned his closer, Carl Makowsky who'd not allowed a run in 13 games. He had the Colts where he wanted them, with Rocha down to his last strike. The Colts right-fielder responded with a double down the line to tie the game up at 2. Shreveport would get the winning run in the 10th, on a Derek Henderson RBI single scoring Tony Schifano who was 3-4 on the night. Rocha's 3-5 evening would lead the Colts, in defeat. Chad Johnson was hit with the loss, although he allowed just 1 hit while Makowsky would get the win.
