Sportec Solutions Named VAR Technology Provider for Major League Soccer Until 2030
February 22, 2024 - Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release
NEW YORK, N.Y. - Major League Soccer has announced that Sportec Solutions, will be the league's new Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology provider from the start of the 2024 season.
The new multi-year deal will see Sportec Solutions implement its FIFA-approved VAR technology for 530 MLS matches, 77 Leagues Cup fixtures as well as the MLS All-Star Game presented by Target throughout the 2024 season. This follows Sportec Solutions' successful VAR and Goal Line Technology rollout at the start of the 2022/23 season in the German Bundesliga.
The announcement comes 12 months after MLS signed a long-term deal with Sportec Solutions to collect and create next-generation enhanced data feeds from all MLS, MLS NEXT Pro and Leagues Cup matches used for MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
Underlining its commitment to soccer in the North America, Sportec Solutions has opened a state-of-the-art operations center in Arlington, Texas, which will host a range of services for MLS including all video review, medical sideline review and match data gathering.
Creating this centralized MLS-focused facility underscores the unique relationship between MLS and Sportec Solutions, and over time, will enable a full suite of league-controlled technology services to be housed there, further enhancing MLS' technology, officiating and fan engagement capabilities.
Christian Holzer, Managing Director, Sportec Solutions, said:
"It's an exciting time for Sportec Solutions as we continue to roll out our FIFA-approved VAR technology in leagues across the world. We're delighted to further strengthen our relationship with MLS at this exciting time in the league's evolution, and we are excited to help them create a new paradigm in centralized, league-controlled soccer technology. We are proud of the work we have done over the last 12 months and are grateful for the support and trust given to us by MLS. Opening our U.S. HQ is a significant milestone in Sportec Solutions' journey and is a clear demonstration of our commitment to expand to further leagues across North and South America."
Jeff Agoos, SVP, Competition & Medical Administration at Major League Soccer, said:
"As we kick-off the 29th season of Major League Soccer, we are thrilled to have Sportec Solutions as our technology provider for video review, medical sideline review, and cutting-edge data capabilities. For the first time in our league's history, these services will be managed in one central location on matchdays, allowing for industry-leading technology and enhanced fan experiences, all while reinforcing our mission to advance our competition with integrity and innovation."
